Arti & Mestieri aka arts+crafts, is an Italian progressive rock and jazz rock group formed 1974 in Turin, Italy, by Furio Chirico (drums), Beppe Crovella (organ, piano, Mellotron, synthesizer), Gigi Venegoni (guitar), Marco Gallesi (bass), Arturo Vitale (saxophone, vibraphone) and Giovanni Vigliar (violin, vocals). Chirico was formerly with Italian prog-psych band The Trip. The band's style is symphonic progressive rock with strong elements of jazz. They kicked off their recording career with two superb albums, Tilt (Immagini per un orecchio) from 1974, and Giro di valzer per domani the following year. Over the following two decades the band performed and recorded only sporadically, but bounced back as a reformed unit in the late '90s. In the 2000's they released several excellent live albums, plus the 2015 studio release Universi Paralleli. On the anniversary of their 40th anniversary, in 2015, the band took part in The Best Of Italian Rock, at the Club Città theater in Tokyo, the entire performance being recorded for the series Live In Japan - The Best of Italian Rock. The lineup included the four original members Chirico, Venegoni, Crovella and Vitale, as well as guest Mel Collins of King Crimson. They performed the original arrangements of Tilt, Giro di valzer per Pomoro, and Universi Paralleli.
