Alberta Hunter, born 1895 in Memphis Tennessee, was an American Jazz/Blues singer and songwriter who had a successful career from 1920s to the late 1950s. She stopped performing and worked as a nurse until resuming her musical career in 1977. Hunter wrote and performed the soundtrack for the 1978 Robert Altman film Remember my Name. At 85 years old she made three excellent albums Amtrak Blues, The Glory of Alberta Hunter and Look for the Silver Lining.
