Alcest is a French Post-Metal band from Bagnols-sur-Cèze, founded by Neige aka Stéphane Paut, in 2000. Initially a Black Metal solo project by Neige, members Aegnor and Argoth joined for a time to form a trio, before leaving. Their musical style has been called "blackgaze" in reference to its fusion of black metal and shoegaze elements. Neige describes the music as a journey for the listener through his memories of living in an otherworldly "Fairy Land". The band has released six studio albums to-date. Standouts include the first two albums, Souvenirs d'un autre monde and Écailles de lun, plus the more recent releases Kodama and Spiritual Instinct. Neige has also released a solo album and works with other bands including Peste Noir.
