Bang on a Can is a contemporary classical music organization based in New York City. It was founded in 1987 by three American composers who remain its artistic directors: Julia Wolfe, David Lang, and Michael Gordon. The group established a public fund for commissioning new works from contemporary composer such as Steve Reich, Terry Riley and John Adams, as well as a host of up and coming musicians. They also champion works of American modern composers Harry Partch, John Cage and Glenn Branca. Outstanding albums include New York Counterpoint (Steve Reich), Music for Airports (Brian Eno), Renegade Heaven and More Field Recordings.
