Big Star was an American rock band formed 1971 in Memphis, Tennessee by Alex Chilton, Chris Bell, Jody Stephens, and Andy Hummel. The group broke up in early 1975, and reorganized with a new lineup, including Ken Stringfellow, 18 years later following a reunion concert at the University of Missouri. Chilton was a teenage pop star with his previous band The Box Tops. Big Star has been described by critics as "the quintessential American Power Pop band". Chilton, Bell and Stringfellow all released excellent solo albums after Big Star. The band's first Three studio albums: #1 Record, Radio City and 3rd, are all classics.
