To Pimp a Butterfly is Kendrick Lamar's Third studio album which sees him step towards organic instrumentation and boasts production from talents such as Flying Lotus, Kamasi Washington, Thundercat and Dr Dre. The songs are centred around a conversation between Kendrick and Tupac Shakur, exploring themes such as the self, success, the music industry and contemporary politics. Although it remains a more of a challenging initial listen than its predecessors, it remains one of the most rewarding albums released in the 2010s. The album's tasteful blending of Jazz, Funk, Rap and Poetry, created a benchmark record for critics and rap fans alike.
