Caifanes is a Mexican rock band formed 1987 in Mexico City by original lineup Saúl Hernández (vocals, guitar), Alejandro Marcovich (guitar), Sabo Romo (bass), Alfonso André (drums), and Diego Herrera (keyboards, saxophone). The band's style is a blend of new-wave, progressive rock and Latin percussion underscored by Latin American-Mexican-Spanish-influenced lyrics. They are hugely popular throughout Latin America and the United States and were a staple on Latin MTV. In 1994 Caifanes opened for the Rolling Stones in Mexico City and participated in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival. Their four studio albums are all excellent: Caifanes ('88), Caifanes Vol. II: El Diablito ('90), El silencio ('92) and El nervio del volcán ('94).
