María Natalia Lafourcade Silva is a Mexican pop-rock and folk singer and songwriter born 1984 in Mexico City. Since her debut as a solo performer in 2002, she has been one of the most successful singers in Latin America. Coming from a musical family, her father is the Chilean musician Gastón Lafourcade and her mother is the pianist María del Carmen Silva Contreras, Natalia was always destined to be a musician. At the age of 14, Lafourcade joined the girl pop trio Twist alongside former member of the group Jeans, Tábatha Vizuet, and Ana Pamela Garcés, a former host of a children's television program on TV Azteca. The group was unsuccessful and they split up the following year. After finishing high school, Lafourcade enrolled at Academia de Música Fermatta, where she met Alonso Cortés, who would eventually be the drummer for her present-day band La Forquetina. in 2000 producer Loris Ceroni listened to demos received from the then 17 year old and under his guidance Lafourcade focussed on becoming a solo performer and produced her debut self-titled LP on the Sony Music label in 2003. With a pleasant mix of pop, rock, bossa-nova and Latin rhythms, the album produced the singles "Busca un Problema", "Te Quiero Dar", "Mírame, Mírate" and her biggest hit "En el 2000". The artist has gone on to release Eleven studio albums to-date, each exhibiting a greater depth of musical sophistication developed with the artists' maturity and greater understanding of her national folk musical sources. Standout albums include Hasta la raíz (2015), Musas Vol.1 (2017) , Musas Vol.2 (2018), Un canto por México vol. 1 (2020), and De todas las flores (2022). During her childhood, Lafourcade studied music with her mother, whose expertise was musical pedagogy and is the creator of the Macarsi Method for musical training and personal development for children. She adapted and practiced the method with young Natalia to help her rehabilitate through music, following a head injury from being kicked by a horse.
