Barrington DeVaughn Hendricks aka Devon Hendryx aka JPEGMAFIA aka DJ Snitch Bitch aka The Rookwood Escape Plan, is an American rapper, singer and record producer born 1989 in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Born to Jamaican parents, Hendricks developed an interest in music production at the age of 15, and he began producing after he learned how to sample. He enlisted in the US Air Force at age 18 and served a tour of duty in Iraq and also spent time in Kuwait, Germany, Japan and North Africa. While in the military he was producing and writing music under the name Devon Hendryx, resulting in the excellent entirely self-made The Ghost-Pop Tape from 2013. In 2015 the artist moved to Baltimore where he began making music under his moniker JPEGMAFIA and released several mixtapes inspired by the racial protests taking place in that city. His debut album under the name JPEGMAFIA, Black Ben Carson (2016) featured a much harsher, distorted sound than later projects. Upon moving to LA he released his next studio album Veteran (2018), which was considered JPEGMAFIA's most experimental album to date, receiving widespread critical acclaim. All My Heroes Are Cornballs was then released in 2019, to further critical acclaim. In March 2020, Hendricks started a vlog series on his YouTube channel called HTBAR (How To Build A Relationship). The series feature the artist talking to other musicians and friends about various topics, mostly about music, life and politics. Each episode's soundtrack consist of unreleased songs, demos and instrumentals produced by JPEGMAFIA. In 2023 JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown released a collaboration album entitled Scaring the Hoes, which is generating rave reviews. "Peggy", as he is affectionately known, is one of most critically acclaimed hip hop artists of the present decade. His music has been described as experimental hip-hop which incorporates a wide range of genres such as trap, R&B, vaporware, and noise rap. Standout albums include the Devon Hendryx titles Joechillworld (2011), and The Ghost-Pop Tape (2013), The Rookwood Escape Plan Dreamcast Summer Songs (2012), and the JPEGMAFIA releases Veteran (2018), All My Heroes Are Cornballs (2019), LP! (2021), and Scaring the Hoes (2023).
