Look Blue Go Purple was a New Zealand alternative rock band formed 1983 in Dunedin by Kath Webster (guitar), Norma O'Malley (keyboards, flute), Denise Roughan (guitar), Lesley Paris (drums), and Kathy Bull (bass). They were active from 1983 to 1987 and recognised as part of the Dunedin sound. Part of the Flying Nun stable of bands, LBGP only released three excellent studio EP's and a handful of singles, but established a strong and lasting cult following in their time. All three EP's are standouts: Bewitched, LBGPEP2, and This is This. Also highly recommended is 2017 compilation album Still Bewitched. The band's sound has a familiar jangly sheen but is set apart from other Flying Nun bands by the presence of understated female vocals, plus a little flute, giving more a folk than twee sound. After the band split up, Canadian born Bull went on to Cyclops and has since recorded two solo albums under her new name Francisca Griffin. Lesley Paris went on to Olla, and now works as station manager for community radio station in Dunedin. Denise Roughan went on to play with The 3Ds and Ghost Club. Norma O'Malley was a founding member of Chug.
