Dengue Fever is an American band formed 2001 in Los Angeles, California, by Ethan Holtzman (farfisa organ) and Zac Holtzman (guitar, vocals), Chhom Nimol (vocals), Senon Williams (bass), Paul Smith (drums) and David Ralicke (saxophone). They combine Cambodian rock and pop music of the 1960s and 70s with psychedelic rock and other world music styles. The band started when the Beck brothers discovered a mutual interest in obscure Cambodian psych-pop music. They recruited Williams, Smith and Ralicke, then added Chhom Nimol as vocalist, who could sing the Khmer lyrics. Nimol had previously been a well-known singer in Cambodia before emigrating to the United States. The band has released to-date six studio albums which combine girl-group pop, surf music, jazz and African rhythms while retaining its roots in Cambodian psychedelic rock. Outstanding albums include Dengue Fever, Venus on Earth, In The Ley Lines and Cannibal Courtship. In 2008 the band signed a world-wide distribution deal with Peter Gabriel's Real World Records, They also support a number of Cambodian charities such as the wildlife and forest conservation organisation Wildlife Alliance.
