Our Man in Paris is the Ninth studio album from Dexter Gordon, originally released in 1963 on the Blue Note label. Tenor saxman Dexter Gordon recorded this in Paris in 1963 with Bud Powell on piano, Pierre Michelot on bass, and Kenny Clarke on drums. Gordon was at the height of his powers at this time, recording Six superb albums in a row over the period 1961-66: Doin' Alright, Go, Our Man in Paris, Swingin' Affair, One Flight Up and Gettin' Around. This album will transport you Paris in the Sixties, peering through the smoke haze at the best hard bop jazz outfit you've ever heard. Swingin out on Charlie Parker`s "Scrapple From The Apple", the standard "Willow Weep For Me", a ballad "Stairway To The Stars" and a cool take of the classic "Night In Tunisia". Powell and Clarke were pioneers in the bebop movement of the '40s so you know they're goin' to cook, plus Dex himself is at his most joyous. This album is right up there with other jazz classics like Miles Davis' Kind of Blue.
