YUP | Artist
YUP is a Finnish rock-music group formed 1987 in Savonlinna, Finland, by Jarkko Martikainen (vocals, guitar), Valtteri Tynkkynen (bass) and Jussi Hyyrynen (guitar, drums). The three founding member met as students of Savonlinna senior high school of arts and began playing primitive, progressive hard-core punk with English lyrics. After a few years the trio added new members Tommi Käkkäinen (keyboards, percussion), Janne Mannonen (drums) and Petri Tiainen (keyboards). As the band matured their sound lost some of its hardcore edge, becoming somewhat more melodic and complex, with the increased use of keyboards. The band released 11 studio albums before announcing their indefinite hiatus in 2009. Standout albums include Huuda harkiten, Toppatakkeja ja Toledon terästä, Homo sapiens and Yövieraat. Also founder Jarkko Martikainen has released several solo albums including the excellent Rakkaus from 2006. The intials of the band's name stand for "Young Urban Perverts".
