Pez | Artist
Pez is an Argentinian psychedelic rock band formed 1993 in Buenos Aires by Ariel Minimal (guitar, vocals), Poli Barbieri (drums), and Alez Barbieri (bass). The pesent-day lineup consists of Ariel Minimal with Franco Salvador (drums, backing vocals), Fósforo Garcia (bass, backing vocals), and Hernán Espejo (guitar). Singer and guitarist Ariel Minimal, born Ariel Gustavo Sanzo, is a verteran of the Argentinian rock scene, beginning his career in 1985 in the punk band Descontrol, then playing in various other bands including Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Martes Menta and El Siempreterno. Pez's music is characterised by its dynamic blend of hard rock, alternative rock, and psychedelic influences, with lyrics touching on themes of love, loss, and social commentary. Ariel Minimal's poignant songwriting, combined with his emotive vocals, has established Pez as a band that is not afraid to tackle complex issues in their music. Between the years 2000 and 2019 the band's lineup included various keyboard players, a saxophonist and flautist, giving their sound a more prog-rock influence, which is evident on their middle period albums. Since that time their sound has reverted to a guitar driven rock sound, led by Arial Minimal. To-date the band has 21 studio albums to their credit, including the standouts Quemado (1976), El sol detrás del sol (2002), Folklore (2004), Los orfebres (2007), and the 2005 live album Para las almas sensibles. In 2005, Ariel Minimal received the Konex Award - Diploma of Merit, recognising him as one of the 5 most important rock composers of the decade in Argentina.
