A Certain Ration or ACR, is an English Post Punk band formed in 1977 in Manchester by Jez Kerr (bass, vocals), Simon Topping (vocals, trumpet), Martin Moscrop (guitar, trumpet) and Peter Terrell (guitar, electronics). ACR was part of the Factory Records stable and regularly played the Haçienda club. They became known for their punk-funk/industrial/dance oriented sound, drawing influences from funk as well as disco and Latin percussion. Martin Moscrop also started a second band in 1980, Swamp Children, later renamed Kalima, that would go on to share several members with A Certain Ratio. The band released 11 studio albums, stand-outs include The Graveyard and the Ballroom, To Each.., and Sextet. The 2002 compilation Early is also recommended. The band are featured in the 2002 film 24 Hour Party People where Tony Wilson (played by Steve Coogan) describes them as "having all the energy of Joy Division but better clothes".
