Ali Ibrahim "Ali Farka" Touré, born 1939 in Timbuktu was a Malian singer and multi-instrumentalist, and one of Africa's most renowned musicians. His music represents the cross-over of traditional Malian music and its North American cousin the Blues. He worked with fellow Malian Toumani Diabaté and with Ry Cooder on the 1994 album Talking Timbuktu.
