Bon Iver is an American indie folk band founded 2006 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin by singer-songwriter Justin Vernon. The name "Bon Iver" derives from the French phrase bon hiver, taken from a greeting on the TV series Northern Exposure. Vernon released Bon Iver's 2007 debut album For Emma, Forever Ago independently and it attracted considerable critical praise for its attractive indie-folk sound. The band has collaborated with artists Colin Stetson and James Blake. Outstanding albums include For Emma Forever Ago, Bon Iver Bon Iver, 22 a Million and The MySpace Transmissions live EP.
