Divinyls | Artist
Divinyls was an Australian rock band formed 1980 in Sydney by core duo vocalist Chrissy Amphlett and guitarist Mark McEntee. McEntee had formerly played briefly in soft rock band Air Supply. Amphlett was a dynamic stage performer and got widespread attention for performing in a school uniform and fishnet stockings. For their first two years the band toiled in the Sydney pub and club scene but got a break when their songs were used for the underground film "Monkey Grip", and released as a mini album in 1982. This was soon followed by their debut album Desperate the same year. Their second album What a Life! ('85) is arguably their strongest work and it gave them a break into the US market, on the back of the iconic single "Pleasure & Pain". The band released 5 studio albums and disbanded in 1996. Amphlett, one of Australia's greatest female rock performers, passed away in 2013. Outstanding Divinyls albums include What a Life!, Temperamental, and the Monkey Grip Soundtrack EP.
