David Bridie is an Australian musician and songwriter born 1962 in Melbourne. He is known as co-founder of the '80s ambient-world music band Not Drowning, Waving and the '90s contemporary folk band My Friend the Chocolate Cake. Since 2000 he has been performing as a soloist and releasing solo albums and soundtracks. Bridie is also the founder and Artistic Director of Wantok Musik Foundation; a not-for-profit music label that records, releases and promotes culturally infused music from Indigenous Australia, Melanesia and Oceania. In 2019, he was recognised by the Australian Council for the Arts for his contribution to music in Australia. Outstanding solo albums include Act of Free Choice, Hotel Radio, Wake, and his 2019 release The Wisdom Line.
