María Belén Fratti Sierra aka Mabe Fratti is a Guatemalan musician born 1992 in Guatemala City. A classically trained cellist and vocalist, Fratti works in a wide variety of genres including experimental, electroacoustic, and avant-pop. Her work includes collaborations with artists such as Belafonte Sensacional, the duo Titanic, and she is part of avant-garde music collective Amor Muere. Raised in a Pentecostalist family, Fratti was classically trained in cello and limited to listening to either Christian or classical music by her parents. More avant-garde elements were introduced to her like a György Ligeti record brought home by her father, and a DVD by cellist Jacqueline du Pré she found in a record store. She began creating her own music as a teenager, and upon leaving the church expanded into playing greatly varied styles. In 2015, a Goethe Institute residency took her to Mexico to work on her music. Relocating to Mexico, she began performing with more musicians such as established artists Libertad Figueroa, Gudrun Gut and Julian Bonequi, and got involved in the Mexico City improvisational music scene. She met future members of Amore Muere and her partner Héctor Tosta. To-date Fratti has released seven studio albums, plus one album with the duo Titanic, and one album with Amor Muere. Standout releases include Pies sobre la tierra (2019), Será que ahora podremos entendernos (2021), her latest album Sentir que no sabes (2024), and Vidrio (2023) by Titanic. Fratti's music has attracted many rave reviews, and has been referred to as "mind blowing" by fellow experimental artist Oneohtrix Point Never. She is also being compared favourably with more established artists such as Kate Bush and Joanna Newsom.
