Bob Downes | Artist
Robert George Downes is an English avant-garde jazz flautist and saxophonist born 1937 in Plymouth, UK. Early in his career he played with the John Barry Seven group, then formed an avant-garde jazz trio called Open Music. His debut album Deep Down Heavy (1970) is psych jazz-rock in style but later works tended towards a more experimental free-style sound. Outstanding albums include Deep Down Heavy, Electric City and Diversions. Out of interest, Electric City had a incredible lineup of session players including Chris Spedding, Ian Carr, Kenny Wheeler and Herbie Flowers.
