Deluge Grander is an American symphonic progressive rock group formed 2005 in Baltimore, Maryland, by Dan Britton (keyboards, guitar, vocals), Dave Berggren (guitar), Patrick Gaffney (drums), Brett d'Anon (bass, oud), Frank d'Anon (xylophone, trumpet, flute, keyboards) and Christopher West (bass). Band leader Dan Britton and drummer Patrick Gaffney, both formerly with Prog-Jazz fusion outfit Cerebus Effect, formed a new band with a more symphonic-prog sound to focus on playing Britton's compositions. In describing the band's musical style, which melds woodwinds, brass, strings, keyboards and mellotron over jazzy rhythms, reviewers have cited comparisons with bands such as Yes, Genesis, and King Crimson. There are also clear similarities to Canterbury scene bands such as Caravan and Soft Machine. Being interviewed for ProgSphere, Dan Britton himself quoted "my main influences are Genesis (the chord sequences), Magma (the intensity of repetition and occasional dissonance), and Gentle Giant (the complexity)". Standout albums by Deluge Grander include their 2006 debut August in the Urals, followed by the excellent The Form of the Good (2009), plus Oceanarium (2017) and Lunarians (2020). Dan Britton is also a member of progressive rock band Birds and Buildings who have also released several excellent albums.
