A Beautiful Thing: Idles Live at the Bataclan, released 2019, is the first live release from British post-punks IDLES. The album contains material from their excellent studio albums, Brutalism (2017), and Joy as an Act of Resistance (2018). The atmosphere of the live performance really comes across on the recording, as the crowd is both passionate and in good voice, but does not mar the music itself. The band sounds excellent as always blasting their way through an outstanding 90 minutes of forward-thinking, political punk. A must for fans, and a great benchmark for one of the best upcoming rock acts. As an aside, Le Bataclan in Paris was the scene of the November 2015 terrorist attacks which killed 130 people. Concerts held at this venue take on a particularly stoic character in the aftermath of that tragedy.
