A Place to Bury Strangers is a American Noise Rock band formed 2002 in New York City by David Goffan and Tim Gregorio. Current frontman and guitarist Ackermann had moved to New York following the disbanding of his previous group, Skywave, to join APTBS, and become the primary songwriter after the departure of Goffan. The present day lineup is Ackermann, Sandra Fedowitz (drums) and John Fedowitz (bass). The band play a heavy, atmospheric wall of sound-influenced blend of psych, shoegaze and space rock. In 2006, APTBS gained acclaim following performances supporting the Brian Jonestown Massacre. The band then played support for one of their major influences, the Jesus and Mary Chain. Throughout these formative years, the band's live shows became increasingly chaotic, which earned them the title of New York City's "loudest band" from various indie reviewers and bloggers. Their self-titled debut album was issued in 2008 on Rocket Girl and received strong praise from the British media including NME and Kerrang! In early 2009, the band signed to Mute Records and their second album, Exploding Head was released by Mute in October 2009. To-date the band has released six studio albums plus several live albums and EPs. Standout releases include A Place to Bury Strangers and Exploding Head. The band's name was inspired by the 1898 Aleister Crowley poem "Aceldama", subtitled "A place to bury strangers in".
