Archive is an English art-rock group formed 1994 in London by Darius Keeler (bass, keyboards, programming), Danny Griffiths (guitar), Roya Arab (vocals), and Rosko John (vocals). The current lineup see the departure of Roya Arab and the addition of Maria Q (vocals), Dave Penny (vocals), Pollard Berrier (vocal, guitar) and Jonathan Noyce (bass). Originally a trip-hop band, their music expanded into electronic, trip hop, avant-garde, post-rock and progressive rock, all presented with lush arrangements and a strong emphasis on the vocals. Their sound has been described as a mix between Pink Floyd, Enigma and Portishead. The 1996 debut album Londinium released on Island records featured a mix of dark trip hop, electronica, string arrangements and classically influenced songwriting, instantly gaining them the attention of music critics. Then came a lineup shuffle followed by the release of their somewhat disappointing second album Take my Head (1999). But in 2002 they redeemed themselves with the release of their excellent third album You All Look The Same To Me, which feature new vocalist Craig Walker. Over their twenty five year history, the band has released twelve studio albums plus several film scores and remix albums, and enjoyed established success throughout Europe. Standout albums include Londinium, You All Look The Same To Me, Controlling Crowds, and Live at The Zenith. The compilation album 25 is also highly recommended.
