Riley B. King, aka B.B. King, was an American blues singer, electric guitarist, songwriter, and record producer born 1925 in Itta Bena, Mississippi. Born on a cotton plantation, the son of share-farmers, King was introduced to gospel music at the local church, then to the blues from local musicians such as Bukka White and Sonny Boy Williamson. King introduced a sophisticated style of soloing based on fluid string bending and shimmering vibrato that influenced many later electric blues guitarists, including rock guitarists such as Eric Clapton. His guitar of choice was a Gibson ES-355, which he named Lucille. King released almost 50 studio albums, many of which are blues classics. Standouts include King of the Blues, Completely Well, Indianola Mississippi Seeds, Blues on the Bayou, and the live albums Live at the Regal and Live at Cook County Jail.
