Blue Öyster Cult is an American rock band formed 1970 in Stony Brook, New York by Eric Bloom, Buck Dharma, Allen Lanier, Albert Bouchard and Joe Bouchard. Their Manager, the music critic Sandy Pearlman, saw them as America's answer to Black Sabbath and got them signed to Columbia Records. Even the band name was taken from the Sandy Pearlman poem "Imaginos". The band blended heavy rock and metal with a touch of psychedelia, along with occult lyrics and graphic images, and the band remains today a cult favourite of many rock aficionados. Outstanding albums include their first Three releases: Blue Öyster Cult, Tyranny and Mutation and Secret Treaties, plus Fire of Unknown Origins and the live album On Your Feet or on Your Knees.
