Colosseum | Artist
Colosseum was an English progressive jazz-rock "supergroup" formed 1968 in London by Jon Hiseman (drums), Dick Heckstall-Smith (sax), Dave Greenslade (keyboards), Tony Reeves (bass) and James Litherland (guitar). The band developed a unique mix of blues, rock and jazz-based improvisation, and their musicianship was first rate. In 1970 Dave "Clem" Clemson replaced Litherland, and Chris Farlowe was brought in on vocals. The band split in 1971 but reunited in 1994 under the name Colosseum II. Their first four studio albums and the 1971 live album are all superb examples of jazz-prog fusion. Valentine Suite is their masterpiece and this was released in the USA as The Grass is Greener, with four different tracks.
