Concrete Blonde was an American alternative rock band formed 1982 in Hollywood, California by Johnette Napolitano (vocals, bass), Jim Mankey (guitar) and Harry Rushakoff (drums). Mankey was previously in Sparks, and Rushakoff was replaced by ex-Roxy Music drummer Paul Thompson in '90. The band was active from 1982 to 1995, from 2001 to 2004, and then reunited in 2010 and split up again in 2012. They were best known for their 1990 album Bloodletting which included their top 20 single "Joey", Johnette Napolitano's distinctive "goth" vocal style and Mankey's excellent guitar work. Outstanding albums include Concrete Blonde, Free, Bloodletting, Mexican Moon and the excellent Live in Brazil album. After the band split Napoletano carried on with a solo career as well as working with Mankey in Dream 6, plus Wall of Voodoo's Marc Moreland in the duo Pretty and Twisted.
