David Edmunds is a Welsh singer/songwriter, guitarist, actor and record producer born 1944 in Cardiff UK. Edmunds is known as one of the greatest exponents of 1950s retro-style rock and roll as well as for his work with short-lived but highly influential outfit Rockpile, alongside Nick Lowe. Edmunds was in various Welsh bands from the age of ten, but his first album recordings were with psych-rock trio Love Sculpture, who released two excellent albums; Blues Helping ('68) and Forms and Feelings ('70). Their hit single "Sabre Dance" from the first album was played frequently by influential DJ John Peel. Edmunds' first solo album Rockpile was released in 1970 and contained the classic hit single "I hear You Knocking". To-date Edmunds has released 13 solo studio albums, almost all recorded in his famed Rockfield Studios which Edmunds built in the Welsh countryside. Alongside his solo work, Edmunds teamed up with Nick Lowe (bass), Billy Bremner (guitar, vocals), and former Love Sculpture drummer Terry Williams, to form the side project Rockpile which released the excellent Seconds of Pleasure album, plus several live recordings. As a producer Edmunds helped shape the sound of bands such as Brinsley Schwarz, Ducks Deluxe, Flamin' Groovies, Foghat, Status Quo, Stray Cats and Paul McCartney. Standout Edmunds solo albums include Rockpile, Get It, Tracks on Wax 4, Repeat When Necessary, Twangin' and A Pile of Rock: Live.
