Dave Graney is an Australian musician, singer-songwriter and author born 1959 in Mount Gambier, South Australia. He is best known for fronting Dave Graney & The Coral Snakes, plus his solo work and many side projects. Since 1978, Graney has been accompanied by drummer Clare Moore. Their first band, the short lived Adelaide based Sputniks, recorded one Single, moved to Melbourne then disbanded. Graney and Moore then recruited Steve Miller (guitar) and Steve Carman (bass) to form post-punk group The Moodists in 1980. The Moodists relocated to the UK in '83 and recorded one album Thirsty's Calling, which was comparable in style to The Birthday Party. In '86, while still in London, Graney and Moore disbanded The Moodists and formed Dave Graney & The Coral Snakes with Gordy Blair (bass), Malcolm Ross (guitar) and Louis Vause (keyboards). After recording the EP At His Stone Beach Graney and Moore were ordered out of the country by UK immigration so they returned to Melbourne. Dave Graney & The Coral Snakes released six studio albums before disbanding in '97. Graney and Moore continued working on a variety of solo and collaboration projects which extended their rock sound to incorporate country, exotica and lounge stylings. Outstanding albums include Night of The Wolverine, You Wanna Be There But You Don't Wanna Travel, The Soft 'n' Sexy Sound, The Devil Drives, and the Dave Graney solo album Rock 'n' Roll Is Where I Hide. Graney was awarded 'Best Male Vocalist' at the ARIA Music Awards and he has received seven other ARIA Award nominations.
