Dreadzone | Artist
Dreadzone is a British electronic dub music group formed 1993 in London by Greg Roberts (drums), Tim Bran (producer), Leo Williams (bass), Dan Donovan (keyboards) and Earl 16 (vocals). The band started when ex-Big Audio Dynamite drummer Greg Roberts teamed up with Tim Bran, who had previously worked with Julian Cope. The duo signed to Creation Records in 1993 and released their first album 360 degrees. They then recruited Donovan, also from BAD, plus Williams and Earl 16. That lineup released the live album Performance and studio album Second Light. The band gained prominence as opening act at Glastonbury, support act for Oasis at Knebworth, and were championed by John Peel on BBC Radio. They also hat a UK hit with the song "Little Britain" and had their song "Dream Within a Dream" included on the soundtrack to the film The Saint. They have gone on to release ten albums of what could be described as "Dub Techno" music which includes dance and ambient elements. Standout albums include Performance, Second Light, Sound, The Radio One Sessions and Dread Zone. During the early years Dreadzone's backing vocalists included future stars Melanie Blatt of All Saints, and Alison Goldfrapp.
