Electric Wizard is an English doom metal band formed 1993 in Wimborne, Dorset, by Jus Oborn (guitar, vocals), Mark Greening (drums) and Tim Bagshaw (bass). After lineup changes, Oborn remains the only original member, supported by Liz Buckingham (guitar, Hammond organ), Simon Poole (drums) and Haz Wheaton (bass). The band plays stoner/sludge doom metal, drawing heavily on Black Sabbath, with lyrics focusing on the occult, H.P. Lovecraft, horror films and marijuana. After their self-titled debut album, which received an encouraging reception, they followed up with two doom metal classics, Come my Fanatics (1997) and Dopethrone (2000). One reviewer described Dopethrone as "one of the heaviest slabs of a record I've ever heard. All instruments cranked down deep into the depths of murky fuzz, swimming with the some of the greatest riffs since Sabbath". Two more albums followed including the excellent live album We Live, then the band dropped their third classic release 2007's Witchcult Today. In 2014 they formed Witchfinder Records, an imprint of Spinefarm Records, on which they plan to release all future albums.
