Eloy is a German progressive rock band formed 1969 in Hannover, by Frank Bornemann (guitar, lead vocals), Manfred Wieczorke (guitar, bass, vocals), Wolfgang Stöcker (bass), Erich Schriever (lead vocals, organ, piano, keyboards) and Helmut Draht (drums). The lineup changed over years and several members were in the band Epitaph, also from Hannover. Their style of progressive symphonic and space rock, had similarities to the sound of UK bands like Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes and Camel. The band had a strong following in Germany and elsewhere in Europe. Their debut self-titled album was released in 1971 and they are still releasing new work as of 2019. From their 22 studio albums, standouts include Inside, Floating, Dawn, Ocean and Silent Cries and Mighty Echoes. The 1978 live album entitled Live is also excellent. The band name comes from the futurist race of humans called "Eloi" from the book "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells.
