Gorguts is a Canadian death metal band formed 1989 in Sherbrooke, Quebec, by Luc Lemay (guitar, vocals), Carlo Gozzi (bass), Gary Chouinard (guitar), Stéphane Provencher (drums) and Sylvain Marcoux (guitar). The band has been through many personnel changes since its inception, and its only constant member has been guitarist and vocalist Luc Lemay, who remains the primary creative force in the band. Gorguts' style of metal has evolved from a straightforward death metal sound to a more complex style of technical death metal, characterised by structurally complex songwriting, with strong use of dissonant and atonal guitarwork. They are credited as being pioneers in the use of dissonance and atonality in metal. To-date the band has released five excellent studio albums, standouts include the four most recent releases: The Erosion of Sanity, Obscura, From Wisdom to Hate and Colored Sands. The 2016 EP release Pleiades' Dust is also highly recommended.
