Grizzly Bear is an American rock band formed 2002 in Brooklyn, New York by Edward Droste (vocals, guitar, omnichord), Daniel Rossen (guitar, banjo, keyboards), Chris Taylor (bass, reeds, electronics), and Christopher Bear (drums, vocals). The band's first album, 2004's Horn of Plenty, is essentially an Ed Droste solo project, and the other members came on board after that. The band's distinctive sound blends psych, folk and jazz styles, and is characterised by nuanced vocal harmonics. To-date they have released five studio albums, the excellent Yellow House and Veckatimest are standouts. Guitarist & vocalist Daniel Rossen has the side project Department of Eagles and releases solo albums under his own name.
