Interpol is an American rock band formed 1997 in Manhattan, New York, by original line-up Paul Banks (lead vocal, rhythm guitar, bass), Daniel Kessler (lead guitar, vocals), Carlos Dengler (bass, keyboards, vocals), and Greg Drudy (drums). Drudy left the band in 2000 and was replaced by Sam Fogarino (drums, sampler). Interpol is one of the bands associated with the New York Indie scene and one of several groups, including The Strokes and The National that emerged from the post-punk of the 2000s.The band's sound is a mix of staccato bass and rhythmic, harmonized guitar with a snare-heavy mix, drawing comparisons to post-punk bands such as Joy Division, Television and the Chameleons. Interpol's excellent debut album Turn on the Bright Lights (2002) was critically acclaimed, making it to No. 10 on NME's list of the top albums of the year, and No. 1 on Pitchfork's list of the top 50 albums of the year. To-date they have released six studio albums, standouts are Turn on the Bright Lights, Antics, Our Love to admire and El Pintor. The band is still active however the members have various side projects. Fogarino joined former Swervedriver frontman Adam Franklin to form The Setting Suns, renamed as Magnetic Morning. Banks also released a solo album Banks (2012), plus a collaborative album alongside Wu-Tang Clan member RZA under the name Banks & Steelz. In 2020 Paul Banks announced a new side project Muzz alongside Josh Kaufman and Matt Barrick. Daniel Kessler formed Big Noble with sound designer Joseph Fraioli of Datach'i. They released their debut album First Light on February 2, 2015.
