Jane Weaver is an English singer, songwriter, and guitarist born 1972 in Liverpool. Weaver has performed as part of the Britpop group Kill Laura, the folktronica project Misty Dixon, and as a solo artist. Kill Laura began when Weaver was in college between 1993-96 they released five singles, and three EP's, highlighted by Unloverlike from 1994. Weaver's solo career began with the album Supersister for Manchester Records in 1998, which remained unreleased following the death of label boss Rob Gretton in May 1999. A single, "Everyone Knows Everyone Else", recorded in collaboration with Doves and DJ/Producer (and Weaver's future husband) Andy Votel was released from the Supersister sessions. Weaver continued her solo career and in parallel is a member of the band Misty Dixon which also featured the artist Dave Tyack aka Dakota Oak, until his death in 2002. Following a number of singles, Weaver's first album, Like An Aspen Leaf, was released in 2002, establishing her as one of the UK's foremost Folktronica artists. Weaver has gone on to release 11 studio albums to-date, with standouts including Like an Aspen Leaf, Cherlokalate, The Fallen by Watch Bird, The Silver Globe, Modern Kosmology and Flock. 2014's excellent The Silver Globe was critically acclaimed as an artistic breakthrough and named Piccadilly (Pye) Records' Album of the Year 2014. Jane Weaver also runs the Bird Records label which is an offshoot of Twisted Nerve Records. Bird was founded in 2002 and mainly releases recordings by contemporary female folk artists including early recordings by Beth Jeans Houghton and Emma Tricca.
