New Model Army is an English post-punk band formed 1980 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, by lead singer, guitarist and main composer Justin Sullivan, bassist Stuart Morrow and drummer Phil Tompkins. Sullivan, aka "Slade The Leveller", has been the only continuous member of the band, which has seen numerous line-up changes in its 39-year history. Whilst having their roots in punk rock, the band's eclectic sound is influenced by post-punk, Goth, metal and folk music styles. The band has released 16 consistently excellent albums starting with Vengeance from 1984, through to their most recent From Here, released 2019. Standout albums include Vengeance, The Ghost of Cain, Thunder and Consolation, Impurity, The Love of Hopeless Causes, Between Wine and Blood, and the live album ...& Nobody Else. Sullivan has also released two excellent solo albums Big Guitars in Little Europe and Navigating by the Stars. The name "New Model Army" is taken from the army established by Parliament during the English Civil War.
