Raymond "Ray" LaMontagne is an American singer-songwriter and musician born 1973 in Nashua, New Hampshire. LaMontagne had no formal music background but just picked up music by ear, citing influences such as Stephen Stills and The Band. he was successful with his first release Trouble in 2004, which featured performances by Jennifer Stills, daughter of Stephen. The album sold over 250,000 copies in the US and 500,000 worldwide. LaMontagne has a unique vocal style which he says is created by singing through his gut instead of through his nose. Although mostly soft and melodic, LaMontagne is not averse to the occasional psychedelic rock wig-out, adding variety to his sound. To-date, LaMontagne has released seven studio albums. Outstanding releases include Trouble, Till the Sun Turns Black, God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise, Supernova and Ouroboros.
