Sir Douglas Quintet | Artist
The Sir Douglas Quintet was an American rock band formed 1965 in San Antonio, Texas, by Doug Sahm (vocals, guitar), Augie Meyers (organ), Tom Nay (guitar), Jack Barber (bass), Frank Morin (saxophone) and Jonny Perez (drums). With the success of their hit "She's About a Mover" they relocated from Texas to the West Coast amidst the burgeoning San Francisco psychedelic rock scene of the mid 1960s to early 1970s. In 1966 they released their debut album The Best of Sir Douglas Quintet, incorporating Tex-Mex and Cajun styles into rock music. They followed this with a string of excellent albums including Mendocino, Together After Five, The Return of Doug Saldaña and Border Wave. The band's leader Doug Sahm also carried on a solo career and formed the Tex-Mex supergroup Texas Tornados in 1989. At their peak in the '70s Sir Douglas Quintet shared the same European tour bill as the Beach Boys and the Rolling Stones.
