Terry Riley | Artist
Terry Riley is an American composer and musician born 1935 in Colfax, California. He is a pioneer of the minimalist school of Western classical music and his work is deeply influenced by both jazz and Indian classical music. As an early exponent of electronics he utilized innovative tape music techniques and delay systems in his work from the late Sixties and collaborated with other like-minded musicians such as John Cale, La Monte Young and Tony Conrad. His compositions have been performed widely, in particular by The Kronos Quartet. Outstanding albums include In C, A Rainbow in Curved Air, Lifespan and The Harp of New Albion.
