The Doobie Brothers | Artist

The Doobie Brothers are an American rock band formed 1970 in San Jose, California, by founders Tom Johnston (guitar, vocals), Patrick Simmons (guitar, vocals), John Hartman (drums), and Dave Shogren (bass). Tiran Porter (bass) and Michael Hossack (drums) soon replaced the original rhythm section. Later major lineup changes included the addition of guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter in 1974, and pianist/vocalist Michael McDonald in 1975. Both were formerly with Steely Dan, and both changed the band's sound away from its original country/boogie roots towards a slicker mainstream rock direction. Although having its greatest success in the '70s, the band is still active today after five decades, with founders Johnston and Simmons still at the helm. To-date they have released fourteen studio albums with the stand-outs being the earlier releases Toulouse Street, The Captain and Me, What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits, Stampede and Takin' it to The Streets. In 2020 the Doobie Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The induction included living members Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, Michael McDonald, John McFee, Tiran Porter, John Hartman, and Jeff Baxter, while drummer & vocalist Keith Knudsen and drummer Michael Hossack were inducted posthumously.
