The Feelies is an American rock band formed 1976 in Haledon, New Jersey, by Bill Million (guitar, vocals), Glenn Mercer (guitar, vocals), Vinny DeNunzio (drums) and John Papesca (bass). Million and Mercer still lead the band, accompanied by current rhythm section Brenda Sauter (bass, vocals), Stan Demeski (drums, percussion) and Dave Weckerman (percussion). The band quickly raised attention with their punchy song driven post-punk sound, at venues such as NYC's CBGB, with critical acclaim from outlets such as the Village Voice, who dubbed the then-unsigned Feelies "The Best Underground Band in New York". They disbanded in 1992 having released four excellent albums. The band reunited in 2008, and released a further two albums in 2011 and 2017. Although not commercially successful, the Feelies had an influence on the development of American indie rock and still retain a loyal cult audience. Standout albums include their debut, the superb Crazy Rhythms, and the next three: The Good Earth, Only Life and Time For a Witness. There have been a number of spin-off bands including Speed The Plough, The Trypes and Wild Carnation. Glenn Mercer also released the excellent solo album Wheels in Motion, in 2007. The band was featured in the 1986 Jonathan Demme movie, 'Something Wild' playing a high school reunion band called "The Willies".
