The Litter | Artist

The Litter was an American psychedelic and garage rock band formed 1966 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by Dan Rinaldi (guitar, vocals), Denny Waite (vocals, keyboards, blues harp), Bill Strandlof (guitar, vocals), Tom Murray (drums, percussion) and Jim Kane (bass, Moog). Tom "Zippy" Caplan (guitar) replaced Standlof in 1967 and remains still active using the band name The Litter. They are best remembered for their 1967 debut single, the garage rock classic "Action Woman" which was heavily laced with fuzz guitars. The band's sound was heavily influenced by British Invasion bands, becoming less garage and more psychedelic rock sounding over time. The band released three excellent early albums, Distortions ('67), $100 Fine ('68) and Emerge ('69), followed by several lesser quality reunion albums in later years. Also highly recommended is the 2009 compilation Action Woman - '60s Garage Nuggets, and the 2018 archival release Wretch. Their classic single "Action Woman" was used as the opening track on the excellent Garage/Psych rock compilation Pebbles Vol-1, released in 1992 on Archive International.
