The Temptations are an American psychedelic soul vocal group formed 1961 in Detroit, Michigan. The original members were Otis Williams, Elbridge Bryant, Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams. In '64 Bryant was replaced by David Ruffin and throughout the most successful stage of their career, Norman Whitfield was their producer. The group released a series of successful singles and albums with Motown Records during the 1960s and 1970s and pioneered the psychedelic soul sound, which was significant in the evolution of R&B and Soul music. Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Temptations number 67 on their list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Outstanding albums include With a Lot o' Soul, Psychedelic Shack, Sky's The Limit, Masterpiece and 1990.
