This is our pick for the quintessential Floyd release for newcomers. Whilst their other cornerstone releases, such as 1973's 'Dark Side of The Moon', boast bolder concepts and grander productions, this is an intimate but grand exploration of loss and the crystallisation of their vision.
The ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ opening and closing tracks remain marvellous and cinematic with their expansive soundscapes and monumental tribute to founding band member Syd Barrett.
Otherwise, ‘Welcome To The Machine’ and ‘Have A Cigar’ are timeless musings on the industry and its crushing process. And the title track is one of the band’s best songs to date and demands to be heard by all.
