Grimes spent the 2010s earning her place in Alternative and Pop through boundary-pushing electronic experimentation, and the quality speaks for itself.
Her previous three releases have proven her to be an innovative force within alternative music. Before her breakthrough into celebrity culture through her relationship with Elon Musk, she rose to prominence in 2010 through two impressive projects, 'Geidi Primes' and 'Halfaxa'. Her critical breakthrough ‘Visions’ (2012) and 4AD label debut, exposed her to the initial audience through which she would grow adoration from with a unique style and cultish aesthetics.
‘Art Angels’ (2015) would cement her status and further her sugary electro-pop experimentation further than ever before. The album earned her support slots for Florence and the Machine and Lana Del Rey and left her enough success to effectively exit the spotlight. Between then and now, Grimes focused on her personal life and recorded this year's monumental ‘Miss Anthropocene’, which has again dominated critical consensus and charts.
From the previous decade's output alone, we can easily recommend Grimes to any alternative Pop or electronic fans. Her refusal for creative compromise has earned her much deserved adoration from fans and critics, and we can only hope she’ll bring the new tour to Australia soon.
'Visions', 'Art Angels' and 'Miss Anthropocene' available in the Store now.
