Man-Made is teenage Fanclub's Ninth studio album, released in 2005. An excellent comeback record coming three years after the patchy Howdy and five years before their next album Shadows. Man-Made is the most subtle work the band issued to-date, the emphasis shifting from vocal harmony to cool melodies and production, beautifully recorded by Tortoise's John McEntire. What's brought into focus is the band's combined songwriting prowess and the little details buried in each song - this is a record of real depth which repays frequent plays. It could be argued that Norman Blake has delivered the best songs - with the acoustic gem "Cells" he provides the records best moment. And isn't it nice to hear those Bandwagonesque guitars let rip on the vmostly instrumental "Born Under a Good Sign". Man-made is not only a triumph for TFC fans , its a record that needs to be heard.
