Our Mother the Mountain was the Second studio album by texan country-folk legend Townes Van Zandt, originally released in 1969 on the Poppy label. Following his promising '68 debut album, Van Zandt laid down this, the first in what were to be a string of masterpiece albums over a ten year period, before falling into professional obscurity and personal oblivion. The great John Peel had this to say about the album and the artist: 'Our Mother The Mountain is a bona fide classic. A fully realised, flawless masterpiece from an artist who, in a single bound, forced the cognoscenti to mention his name in the same breath as the elite of the singer-songwriter craft. That he could neither sustain the quality and impetus of this album nor garner the same level of commercial support as some of his peers is something of a tragedy and definitely a case of outrageous unfairness'. Very highly recommended.
